Before this map, I used the paper map with Plexiglas on top. Since I did not want to waste the money I spent on the plexiglas, I still put it on top of the vinyl map. You do not need it as the vinyl map lays flat but it looks cool.

GF9 Axis & Allies War At Sea Map

We got some of the Gale Force 9 vinyl war at sea maps in. These are excellent maps for replacement of the paper map that comes with the starter. It is not double sided like the paper map but they lay down flat. I personally do not use the side of the paper map that has the coast line. I figure GF9 will get around to making another map in the near future.

Do they really lay out flat? And how big are they CC? 
It would be that they might not lay out flat that would stop me from buying one. But I agree they would be better than the paper maps.
